Who sets the date?
A county may announce a date that follows a law. The source of a date alone does not tell us who has legal authority to set it. These 5 verified state examples describe that distinction; other states have not been classified here.

Methodology and sources
We include 2,165 installment records with a stored due date from January 1, 2026 through December 31, 2027. A county record is excluded if its record verification, any source or any fact is older than 400 days at build time. Coverage is not a random or population-weighted sample; comparisons reflect what has been verified.
“Announced by the county” means the county published that year’s date. “Set by law” means the date is supported by a statute or ordinance. We do not roll last year’s dates forward. Due dates and last days to pay without a penalty are separate fields; a missing payment deadline means unverified, not that no penalty applies. Original installment labels preserve payment-plan conditions. Calendar years may differ from the tax year on a bill.
The busiest-week chart uses only due dates announced by counties, grouped by Monday–Sunday calendar week. A county may contribute several installments. Past dates remain for reporting and are labelled on month pages; no missing date is treated as zero tax owed.
Sources are the official government or approved official payment-vendor links alongside each date and rule. The CSV includes URLs, verbatim quotations and verification dates for due dates, matching payment deadlines, installment labels and tax years. State-authority examples and penalties retain their own source dates above. Read the site verification policy.
Not tax or legal advice. Confirm your date, payment method and deadline with your county. See the separate ACS county-rate report.
